Grand tiled insert and surround

Rather a lovely tiled insert this, with a large opening size of 18 inches. It came from a very grand house in Edinburgh dating to the 1860's. We actually sold it a while ago, cleaned it all up and sent it on its way to its new home only to have it come back as the poor folk who bought it had unforeseen chimney issues. Lovely fire though.
The surround is one of my current faves. Its been described as 'of the aesthetic movement' and has a nice classical feel to it. I'm still not sure how to go about restoring it though, it's mahogany or walnut and will clean up easily enough but there are various mouldings missing (generally around the top left hand side) and I'm still wondering how much this actually bothers me as I quite like it displaying its chequered past, warts an all.
You can see the opening of the actual surround is larger than the metal insert and is 42 inches wide by 38 tall.
