Head door heads

These came from a house in the New Town in Edinburgh where they had apparently been bought back in the '50's from who knows where, but obviously somewhere grand. The bulk of the door head, the dental work and so on is all pine, but the actual heads and corbels are plaster. The head in the centre of the corner piece looks like a respectable Dr Livingston type, but the other heads look far more malevolent, like evil cherubs (they always are in my book, can't stand the things) Might they be called Putti's? or something. Certainly, the pointy ears aren't generally found on your normal babies.
Looking at the pics again, I may have to re think my evil infants theory as there seem to be a few moustaches involved.
