Middling sized marble surround
Very annoying this surround. We spent ages stripping it to show someone who specifically wanted a fire with a bullnose edged shelf (which this one had) and then when we went to set it up, as we lifted the shelf, it split in two. Maybe it got trodden on when on the ground being cleaned, but it goes to show that these things are relatively delicate and should be treated with care. Anyway, we had a spare shelf from another wounded surround which fits it very well, albeit with a more standard edge to the shelf and thats it. decent marble surround in pretty good order, not too big by Glasgow standards, shown with a typical arched insert of the same period.
