Details of Late Georgian Fireplaces

This fire is quite a bit cheaper than the norm due to the fact that its had a gas mantle fitted to the centre of the shelf, so there's a hole (but its pretty much where you would put your clock or whatever).
Nice and clean and from an 1800's grand country house down the east coast. Shown with an insert from the same job which has an 18 inch opening. The legs of these earlier surrounds always seem to be a bit deeper than the later Victorian ones?
