While most of the pictures below show our fires fully restored, these are only the tip of the iceberg - we have loads awaiting restoration and can dig these out if you are looking for something specific. We have numbers of people who can install them and arrange to get ashpan covers made to fit any fire.

All these fires can be converted to gas, though with some it is a lot easier (a 16" or 18" opening with no fire back is easiest).

Tiles can often be swapped about and we can, if necessary, weld additional metal plates to the faces of the inserts to make them larger.

If a fire here is labelled as 'sold' do still get in touch as we may have other similar ones waiting to be restored.

Late Georgian tiled insert

Ref: 2635

We've had a couple of these tiled inserts over the years, generally from Edinburgh's New Town. This one is fresh in and we haven't had a chance to restore it yet (mend the crack shown in the last pic ...

Fancy trim fire insert

Ref: 2633

There's a lot going on with this one. From a grand 1870's house in Edinburgh, from the drawing room where it sat in a carved marble surround (which was kept- having a stove installed instead). ...

Tiled insert

Ref: 2597

This poor old fire languished in the back room being overlooked for years, painted purple and with about 1/3 of its tiles smashed. So I thought I'd do it up. It only really needed to be shot blasted a...

Tiled fire insert

Ref: 2589

Nice tiled insert with a 16 inch opening which is your standard living room size. The insert can of course be extended to fit a larger aperture by attaching a new steel plate to the front and re blast...

Tiled insert

Ref: 2563

Very attractive tiled insert, and quite an early one, dating to about 1870. We've never seen this pattern of casting before, really very gothic. It came from a flat above a shop in Wishaw....

Pine surround with reproduction insert

Ref: 2545

Good simple pine surround which has been varnished by a previous owner, shown with a reproduction insert, not something we generally bother with, but this one had such attractive tiles......

Large white marble fire surround

Ref: 2526

Good big marble fire surround from the centre of Glasgow and dating to the 1870's. A little bit of extra detail in that it has inner legs capped by small mouldings which hold up the facia. It has a co...

Fireplace for an old fossil

Ref: 2518

Last summer I posted a pic of some great ammonites we found on our holidays down in Dorset, and carrying on with the theme, here's an ammonite-y tiled insert we've just bought. Quite an unusual beast....

Pine surround and tiled insert

Ref: 2512

This surround is lucky to still be about. From a cottage that was being demolished outside Falkirk, half the building had been pushed over and we could see this half buried by rubble. It was too dange...

Large grand amber fire surround

Ref: 2481

The sort of fire you'd expect to see in a grand west end property-shown just after it arrived, not cleaned up in any way, or even measured. We just had to quickly get it inside before the rain started...

Pine surround

Ref: 2463

We may already have a pic of these fires on the website, so apologies if its all a repetition, but we had 3 of these rather elegant fires (2 complete with overmantel mirrors). Very nice with their lit...

Mahogany fire surround

Ref: 2462

I think this dates to about 1910 and it came from a house down towards Irvine where it was in the kitchen where a range had been, hence its rather large size. Just a good simple hardwood surrou...

Unusual tiled insert

Ref: 2427

We bought about 8 of these some time ago from a large Victorian school in Greenock that was being pulled down, All with large stone surrounds and all, alas with quite a lot of damage to the tiles. Exc...

Early hob grate prior to removal

Ref: 2332

Nice Georgian hob with its top decorative panel which we removed, along with a similar one, from a house up Perthshire way. We've not restored it yet, or dipped the pine surround, but it should be a c...

Auchterarder combination fire

Simple pine surround with arched insert

Ref: 2280

Lovely arched insert with an 19 inch opening (unusually big) that we've had extended to be 42 inches sq, really nice crisp pattern on it. The surround came from an 1860's house over in Dunoon which w...

Carnoustie fire surround

Ref: 2279

One of several fire surrounds we bought from a demolition in Carnoustie a while back, all ever so slightly different, and all surprisingly hard to remove. The one shown was the unlucky first one to be...

Bellows

Ref: 2259

The first bellows we've ever had I think, and they look pretty old. So old in fact, they could do with having the leather re done but I think it must be quite unusual to see such old examples a...

Lovely marble fire surround

Ref: 2229

Nicer than average, and also larger than most, this lovely surround came from a large house in Prestwick dating to the 1880's. Having the angled inner trim makes it a more delicate looking thing and i...

Small pine surround with arched insert

Ref: 2228

About as small as you will get while still having the standard chunky legs. ( you do see skinnier surrounds but the legs are little more than strips of mouldings). It actually came from Dumfries, alon...

Large early Victorian arched insert

Ref: 2226

Good early half round insert that we've had extended. This basically means that we've fitted a new flat plate to the front of the insert, cut around the detailing so that the overall sizes are bigger,...

Pine surround with Georgian square insert

Good simple pine surround from the 1880's (though its a style that can be seen anywhere from the 1800's until about the start of the first war). Quite a large opening and shown with an insert dating t...
